Internet

Internet is a global network which connects millions of computers all over the world. It has become very simple and easy in accomplishing all day to day activities which were very time taking and hard to manage in those days. We cannot think our life without this great invention called internet. As everything has its pros and cons means both positive and negative effects, internet also has affected the human lives in both ways. Because of the internet, online communication has become very easy and simple. The mode of communication in those days were through letters which was very time taking and hard as one had to travel a long distance. But now, we just need to connect our internet to open some social networking websites and opening Gmail or other accounts (Yahoo, etc) to send messages within seconds.

It has reduced the usage of paper and paper works to a great extent by making everything computerized in the offices (governmental or non-governmental), schools, colleges, educational institutions, training centres, NGOs, universities, shops, business, industries, railway, metro and many more. Using this internet we can get all the news time to time from all across the world from one place. It is very effective and efficient in gathering huge information whether required for references or activities on any topic within seconds. It has benefited the education, travel and business sectors to a great level. It has made easy access to the online public libraries, textbooks or other resources to find relevant topics.

In the earlier time when people were without internet, they had to waste lots of time for any type of work like standing in the long queues and waiting for their number to get travel ticket. But in the modern time of internet, one can book train online in just few clicks and get travel ticket through printout or get a soft copy in his/her mobile. In the internet world, one does not need to travel a long distance for his/her meeting for business or other purposes. One can attend his/her meeting online from own office through the use of video calling, conferencing, Skype or using other tools. It helps in getting admission online in his/her desired school, college or universities, hiring highly skilled employees and teachers, business transactions, banking transactions, applying for driving license, money transfer, learning cooking recipes, bill payment, purchasing anything on free delivery and so many activities.

Uses of internet

Use of Internet for the Teachers

Internet serves as a place for knowledge sharing for the teachers. Teachers around the world can interact with each other and exchange ideas via internet. This is a great way to learn and evolve the methods of teaching.

Online teaching has also given way to numerous job opportunities for these professionals. Many teachers give up on their profession after their marriage owing to the added responsibilities while many others do not take up teaching owing to lack of opportunity in their vicinity. Online coaching has proved to be a boon for such teachers. It allows them to deliver video lectures from their own place. This has only been made possible with the help of internet.

Use in management

The management of different educational institutes around the world can interact by way of internet. This has helped the managements of educational institutes in developing countries improve the infrastructure of their institutes. Newer ideas are incorporated from time to time to keep up with the international standards.

Use of Internet for the Students

Students have also benefitted immensely with the use of internet. In case any of their lectures gets missed in the class, they do not necessarily require seeking help from their teachers or fellow students. Internet has all the required information. They can get help related to any topic/subject online. Internet also comes handy in the preparation of projects and the completion of assignments.

Online coaching has also benefitted the students who do not have access to good educational institutes in their vicinity. There are many towns and villages in the country that do not encompass institutes for the preparation of competitive exams such as JEE and NEET. Online coaching is a great help for such students. They can prepare for these exams from the comfort from their home rather than relocating to a different place or giving up on their dreams.

Conclusion

Internet offers several uses but its contribution to the education sector is simply impeccable. It has actually redefined this sector.

Disadvantages of internet

Internet has become a necessity these days. Gone are the days when internet was only used at work places. These days it is being used everywhere – at homes, offices, cafes and anywhere and everywhere we go. While internet has made life easier and more interesting it also has a lot of disadvantages attached to it.

One of the main disadvantages of internet is that it serves as a major distraction at work place. Whether it is a student or a working professional everyone these days is addicted to internet. While internet is a great way to enhance your knowledge and grow professionally it can also distract you from work. As it is said people tend to adopt the bad habits faster so, instead of making the most of the information available on the internet to improve their knowledge and skills, people usually fall prey to the numerous sources of entertainment the internet offers. From gaming to watching videos, from listening to music to overspending while shopping online, from stalking their relatives and friends online to copying their lifestyle – people, these days, indulge in such useless activities and their work/studies take a back seat. Apart from this, hacking, spamming and other such notorious activities on the internet have also become quite common.

The number of disadvantages of internet certainly outweighs its advantages in the current times.
